Position Overview 

The Vice President, Communication is responsible for the leadership, oversight and execution of internal and external communications. This role will serve as a functional leader, line manager and subject matter expert for the AskBio’s Communications team, reporting directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer and serving as a member of several internal culture committees and DEI Council. With extensive industry knowledge and experience and outstanding leadership qualities, the VP will proactively seek to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of AskBio’s communication activities. This role is located at AskBio’s headquarters in Research Triangle Park (Durham), NC with up to 25% domestic and international travel.

Responsibilities

Build and launch an integrated Communications function that helps create awareness of key milestones and updates throughout the organization, build engagement among colleagues, drive broader awareness of the Company, enhances the profiles of key executives, and showcases our therapeutic pipeline, best-in-class technologies and manufacturing capabilities.

    • Internal Announcements, Milestones & HR Programs
      • Support internal announcements, milestones, and HR programs and initiatives, including:
        • Leadership and team announcements

        • DEI Initiatives
        • Payroll, Benefits and Engagement Initiatives
        • Other miscellaneous programs and updates
  • Town Hall Coordination and Execution
    • Develop content
    • Support content and speaker coordination
    • Support vendor engagement
    • Town Hall facilitation
    • Wrap up and measurement (internal employee survey)
  • Intranet Re-development and administration
    • Assess current intranet and determine appropriate redesign plan
    • Work with vendor on re-design plan and execution
    • Re-launch Intranet re-design in coordination with other Communications channel announcements (peer-to-peer communication platform roll-out)
  • Corporate Materials Development
    • Develop new template materials to support internal/external communication
      • Corporate overview presentation
      • PowerPoint template
      • Email template
      • Email signature template
      • Letter templates
      • Create a single location to house these materials for access and use by colleagues
  • Employee Engagement Initiatives
    • Support execution, roll out and communications for employee engagement initiatives, including:
      • Platform development and introduction
      • Communications development and roll out
      • Ongoing communications and check-in
      • Wrap up and measurement (internal employee survey)
  • Culture Plan & Roll-Out
    • Develop Culture development and deployment framework
    • Outline executional plan
    • Co-Coordinate introduction to ELT
    • Support research and analysis steps in the plan development
    • Support employee engagement and communication initiatives in support of Culture roll out effort
  • DEI Initiative
    • Develop DEI framework
    • Outline executional plan
    • Co-Coordinate introduction to ELT
    • Support Council development and communications process
    • Support employee engagement and communication initiatives in support of DEI initiative roll out
  • Internal Branding Efforts
    • Coordinate and support site branding and environmental visual design efforts
    • Plan to be developed and executed
  • Materials Design Support
    • Support design and clean-up efforts for internal materials, including:
      • Internal presentations
      • Board presentations

External Communications 

  • Executive Profile Development Communications
    • Support efforts that help increase executive profile development, including:
      • Support messaging, content development for speaking engagements, presentations, interviews
      • Develop and distribute press releases to support executive engagements
      • Develop and post social media content to raise awareness of these public engagements
      • Utilize content for internal colleague engagement
  • Corporate Profile Development Communications
    • Support efforts that help elevate corporate profile, including:
      • Press releases and announcements around presence at Congresses or other events
      • Social media posting to raise awareness of Company presence at Congresses
      • Support messaging, content development for speaking engagements, presentations, interviews
      • Utilize content for internal colleague engagement
  • Corporate/Executive Awards
    • Support award submissions and publicity, including:
      • Developing content for award submissions
      • Finalizing and submitting awards for the Company or executives
      • Coordinate any related advertising to support Company or executives as part of the award recognition
      • Develop social media content to raise awareness of the award and recognition
      • Utilize award for internal colleague engagement
  • Pipeline Communications
    • Develop external messaging and materials to drive awareness of and updates for the AskBio Therapeutic pipeline

    • Support all M&A announcements with communications support and engagement, including:
      • Key messaging
      • Press releases
      • FAQs
      • Leadership messages
      • Press release distribution
      • Social media engagement
  • Web Site Management & Maintenance
    • Oversee web site maintenance and updates and manage vendor support for this effort
    • Ongoing work to review web site and determine updates and refresh needs in the months ahead
  • Social Media Channel Strategy & Development
    • Oversee social media strategy and content development (utilize vendor support)
    • Ongoing work to secure vendor and develop/deliver strategy and content pillar approach)

Additional Responsibilities & Efforts

  • Communications Process & Policy Development
    • Develop and embed processes across Communications, including:
      • Corporate press release decision-making, development and approval.
      • Social media content decision-making, development and approval.
      • Internal announcement process and content development approach and approval.
      • Issues management process for issues that could impact the Company, our therapeutic programs or research or manufacturing areas.
  • Issues Management
    • Lead issues management communications efforts, including:
      • Communications strategy

        • Press release distribution
        • Social media engagement
  • Oversee all contracting and vendor invoicing for key projects and program

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Liberal Arts discipline.
  • Previous experience working directly in a Communications leadership role.
  • Minimum 12 years of bio-pharmaceutical industry experience in a global pharmaceutical organization delivering medicines/therapies to a broad market across various therapeutic areas.
